New kind of beetle found! By CBC staff! Staff on the state-owned CBC Newsworld, where, suspiciously like Fox News Channel’s O’Reilly Factor, “The Spin Stops Here”! (-- or is that just on their “Politics” program?) apparently discovered the new creature. They called it the “GREENHOUSE BEETLE”. Most other people, like the folks at the National Post, which features the little bugger on their front page today, call it the Mountain Pine Beetle. Labcoats call it Dendroctonus Ponderosae. Bu

CBC is missing from my satellite TV dial DUSHANBE — When I am in my apartment in Dushanbe, which is admittedly a relatively rare occurrence, I often watch satellite TV. “Often” because, if it is raining or snowing, the satellite dish doesn’t work. I am assuming this is due to a combination of bad connectors and/or a dish full of snow degrading the signal fidelity. I forgot -- we don't talk about Hampton anymore. Not so with Smoltzie, who is optimistic after throwing Sunday without pain. Smoltz, who turns 42 on Thursday, said throwing off the mound, and with the arm extension required to keep pitches down in the strike zone, were two bigger tests than the easy, chest-high throws he made Sunday.
